Den Building

I love Saturdays in the studio. There is something so peaceful and safe about them. It’s as if you can experiment with whatever materials or projects you want and no one is around to interrupt with questions or curiosity. I find sometimes when people ask questions about things that are only half formed it causes me to over-think and stifle the work before it has time to develop. Therefore, this time alone in the studios, without tutors or second years or Creative Advertising students wandering past is bliss for me.

I have been considering using dens or blanket forts in my work because of their similarity to the benders I lived in as a child, and also because they are a more mainstream and more accessible link to childhood. This den was made from fabric scraps and sheets I own, including the tie dyed material made last week in ‘Time For Tea’. I am rather too fond of the pink floral sheet, and have a need to use it whenever I can because it makes my mouth water.
